NGOs & University Finca Trip
Peak into the world of a small coffee farmer's world.
Service Description
Small Guatemalan coffee farmers are the backbone of the coffee industry and yet they struggle to survive within an industry that's worth billions globally. Tres Pasos coffee is fighting to change that through a new coffee business model that focuses on retaining 80% of the value that coffee creates here in Guatemala and distributing it to the small farmers and producers through living wages. What you will experience on this finca trip: - Walk though a active small coffee lot farm with the farmer/producer - Hear the family's origin story and what motivates them to stay in coffee - Due seasonal activities, like pick cherries, prune trees, spread out compost etc - We then will have a coffee tasting to learn about why we ferment coffee and the impacts of that step - We will dive into the history of why the modern coffee industry is only to extract from the farming community and will never really solve the problem it inherently creates. - We will then learn about why we need to turn small coffee farmers into coffee producers This trip will be guided by - Luis & Araceli Minas, third generation farmers, producers and roasters - Leonardo Giron first generation Guatemalan American, who is part of the diaspora of the 70s that was caused by the same instability that controls the coffee industry here today. This tour is intended for NGOs and University student programs that want to learn the realities of small farmers and what needs to change and happen for real impact to flourish. Our pricing starts at $1,500 (10-20 people) also included Round trip transportation from Antigua A home cooked lunch with the Minas family Water and coffee to drink throughout the day * For bigger groups 20-30+ please email Leonardogiron@trespasoscoffee.com to get pricing.
